Jerome Quarterman

Jerome Quarterman, Ph.D., is an associate professor in Health, Human Performance and Leisure Studies and Coordinator of Sport Management Studies at Howard University in Washington, D.C. Previously, he was a full-time faculty member in sport management studies at Florida State University and at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. Of his 34 years of teaching, 18 have involved teaching students in sport management courses in undergraduate and graduate courses at both the master's and doctoral levels. His research interest includes assessments of the managerial roles and skills of practicing managers in sport organizations, barriers and choices confronting student athletes, and research of research methods applied to sport management studies.

He has published over forty articles in physical education, intercollegiate athletics, sport management, and sport marketing journals. His research has appeared in the International Journal of Sport Management, Sport Marketing Quarterly, Journal of Sport Management, the Academic Athletic Journal, Journal of Teaching Physical Education, and the Journal of Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. He is also a co-editor of a leading textbook in sport management studies, entitled Contemporary Sport Management (third edition). He is also a reviewer for the International Journal of Sport Management, Academic Athletic Journal, and The SMART ON LINE Journal. He teaches students in a variety of courses including Research Methods in Sport Management Studies, Organizational Theory in Organizations of the Sport Industry, Intercollegiate Athletic Administration, Ethics in Organizations of the Sport Industry, Organizational Behavior in Organizations of the Sport Industry, Managing Human Resources in Organizations of the Sport Industry, Leadership and Management in Organizations of the Sport Industry, Introduction to Facilities in Organization, and Introduction to Sport Management Studies. He has also served as department chair at Southern, Alabama State, Kentucky State, and Hampton universities. Dr. Quarterman earned an undergraduate degree from Savannah State University, a master from Kent State University and a doctoral degree from The Ohio State University. He is the proud parent of Terrance and Michele.
