John E Dollar

Dr. John Dollar is an associate professor in the sport administration graduate program and department head for Health and Human Performance at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana, his master’s alma mater. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, Arkansas, where he was a four-year letterman in track. Prior to his appointment at NSU, Dollar was a visiting assistant professor, interim program coordinator, and internship coordinator for the sport management program at Texas A&M University, where he also received his doctorate.

Dollar’s publications have appeared in Sport Marketing Quarterly, Athletic Business, the International Journal of Sport Management, and in the online publication Sociology of Sport. He has co-authored abstracts that appear in several conference proceedings including the Annual Conference on Girl’s and Women’s Physical Activity in Sport; the Louisiana Alliance for Health Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance; and the National Association for Girls and Women in Sport. He also has a published abstract of completed research in the Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport. He has presented at state, regional, national, and international workshops and conferences. Included among his publications and presentations are 19 topics involving mentoring, experiential learning, internships and supervision, service learning, career development, and curriculum development in sport management. He has also served on numerous doctoral dissertation and master’s theses committees.

Institutionally, Dollar has served on numerous committees and councils including graduate council, faculty senate, standards, academic advising, scholarship, distance learning, and faculty guidelines. He received the Advisor of the Year Award in 2007 at NSU and has been nominated for the same award on multiple occasions. He was also a finalist on three occasions for the Emil Mamaliga Award, an outstanding teaching award at Texas A&M University. In 2006, he received the Peacemaker of the Year Award, a domestic violence victim’s service award from D.O.V.E.S in Natchitoches, Louisiana.

Dollar has taught courses in sport law, ethics and sport governance, human resource management, recreational sport management, research in sport, and, of course, has supervised more than 1,000 experiential learning experiences for his students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. He also possesses lifetime teaching certificates in Texas and Louisiana.
