Lynn D. Housner

Lynn D. Housner is currently associate dean of the College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences and professor of physical education teacher education at West Virginia University, a position he has held since 1994. Lynn received his BS from the University of Virginia and his MS and PhD from the University of Pittsburgh. While attending graduate school, Lynn taught physical education to children from preschool through eighth grade at Falk Laboratory School.

During his career Lynn has been involved in a number of leadership activities and has served in numerous professional organizations. While at New Mexico State University (NMSU) Lynn was elected to a variety of positions in New Mexico Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance (NMAHPERD): Student section chair, Research section chair, administrative vice president, and president of NMAHPERD.

Dr. Housner also served the Southwest District of AAHPERD as Professional Preparation chair for a number of years and as the Curriculum and Instruction Academy chair for AAHPERD, 1995–1996. Currently the vice president for higher education for the West Virginia AHPERD, he received the honor award and scholar award from this organization in 2006 and 2008, respectively.

Lynn has been an active member of AAHPERD for most of his career. He participated in organizing the American Educational Research Association Special Interest Group on Research on Learning and Instruction in Physical Education and chaired this organization for the first two terms from 1986 to1988. He has also had professional affiliations with the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the Association of Teacher Educators, International Association for Higher Education in Physical Education, and NCATE. Lynn was selected by the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education to receive the NCATE Board of Examiners accreditation training. He has represented NCATE on accreditation visits since 2002.

Lynn has served as a reviewer for American Educational Research Journal, Journal of Teaching in Physical Education, Journal of Teacher Education, Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport Science and as an editorial board member for Journal of Teaching in Physical Education.

He has published work on teacher and coach cognition and teaching physical education in state, regional, national, and international journals and was selected Southwest AHPERD Scholar in 1994-1995. In 2003 Dr. Housner was selected as a member of the American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education in 2005.
