Richard is a lawyer and CPA and is Counsel in the Canadian law firm, Stikeman Elliott LLP. He has been a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) since 1978 and for some twenty years was responsible for all television and marketing activities of the IOC. He is past president of the Canadian Olympic Committee and was a double Olympic finalist in swimming and a 1962 Commonwealth Games champion. Pound was the inaugural president of the World Anti-Doping Agency and is the current chairman of Olympic Broadcasting Services. He is Chancellor Emeritus of McGill University. He has written extensively on Olympic and other subjects.
