Paul Wylleman
Paul Wylleman, PhD, is an associate professor at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium. He teaches psychology of sport, exercise, and leisure in the Faculty of Physical Education and Physiotherapy and in the Faculty of Psychology and Education at the graduate level. He is also the coordinator of the Department of Top-Level Sport and Study, where he provides career counseling to elite-level student-athletes and coordinates the Study and Talent Education Program (STEP). After completing his dissertation on talented young athletes' interpersonal relationships at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, he conducted postdoctoral research at the Institute for the Study of Youth Sport at Michigan State University. His research interests are focused on the interpersonal relationships in competitive sport and on the career development of elite athletes. Dr. Wylleman has been heading the Special Interest Group on Career Transitions of the European Federation of Sport Psychology (FEPSAC) since 1993. His publications include Career Transitions in Competitive Sports, which he coedited with David Lavallee and Dorothee Alfermann for FEPSAC, and various articles in sport psychology journals. He is currently on the editorial board of The Sport Psychologist and the Sportpsychologie Bulletin. Dr. Wylleman is a board member of the Belgian Sport Psychology Federation and serves on the board of FEPSAC as treasurer. He is an avid badminton player and enjoys judo and downhill skiing.
