Richard Pringle is an associate professor of socio-cultural studies of sport at the University of Auckland in New Zealand. He is the co-author (with Pirkko Markula) of Foucault, Sport and Exercise: Power, Knowledge and Transforming the Self (2006), and serves on the editorial boards of Sociology of Sport Journal, Asia-Pacific Journal of Health, Sport and Physical Education and Annals of Leisure Research. His research has appeared in numerous journals associated with sport sociology, sport history, leisure and physical education.
