Joy T DeSensi
The late Joy T. DeSensi, EdD (1946-2017) earned her doctoral degree at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in the United States. She served as Associate Dean of the Graduate School and was a Professor in the Department of Exercise, Sport, and Leisure Studies at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Her research interests included the areas of gender, race. and ethnicity in sport, women in sport, multiculturalism, and ethics in sport management. She made numerous state, district, national, and international presentations and was the author and coauthor of book chapters and articles that appear in Quest, Journal of Sport Management, Women in Sport and Physical Activity Journal, and the International Journal of Human Movement Science. She served on the editorial boards of scholarly journals and was Editor of the Journal of Sport Management and Quest. She was a Founding Member of the North American Society for Sport Management and served as the President of The Philosophic Society for the Study of Sport, The National Association for Kinesiology and Physical Education in Higher Education, and The Southern Association for Women in Physical Activity, Sport, and Health. Dr. DeSensi was a University of Tennessee Chancellor’s Professor, which is the highest honor awarded to faculty. Her other professional recognitions included distinguished alumna awards from the University of Memphis and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, service awards, and recognitions for teaching and research and administration. She also received scholar lecture awards including the Delphine Hanna Lecture Award from the National Association for Kinesiology and Physical Education in Higher Education and the Earle F. Zeigler Lecture Award from the North American Society for Sport Management. Dr. DeSensi passed away on April 1, 2017.
